ORA DI KANTA TCHIGA

I will try to be brief in this exercise. The idea for this text emerged from a conversation with an old friend of Guinea-Bissau, someone with a deeply knowledge about the country and the internal dynamics of ECOWAS. Like myself, he is profoundly concerned about the situation in the country, as are all those who care about its political and social progress. We agreed on two points. First, ECOWAS is not free of responsibility for the current political situation in Guinea-Bissau. Second, a realistic assessment of the context forces us to acknowledge that this organisation, heavily influenced by Françafrique, will largely determine, at its summit, the outcome of the coup d’état staged by Umaro Sissoco Embaló. At this very moment, the declared winner of the presidential elections, Fernando Dias da Costa, along with part of his campaign leadership, is in Abuja, Nigeria. They are, perhaps naïvely, placing their hopes in ECOWAS, while an outraged population is mobilising in the streets of Guin...

Quero ser rápido neste exercício. A ideia de escrever este texto surgiu de uma conversa com um velho amigo da Guiné-Bissau, conhecedor do país e das dinâmicas da CEDEAO. Também ele profundamente preocupado com a situação no país, tal como todos os interessados no seu progresso político e social. Concordámos em duas coisas. 1. A CEDEAO não é isenta das responsabilidades na actual situação política na Guiné-Bissau. 2. Porém, um olhar realista ao contexto obriga-nos a reconhecer que esta organização de influência françafricana decidirá na sua cimeira, em grande medida, o desfecho do golpe de Estado encenado por Umaro Sissoco Embaló. Aliás, neste preciso momento, o candidato vencedor das eleições presidenciais, Fernando Dias da Costa, e parte da sua directoria encontram-se em Abuja, na Nigéria. Eles que ingenuamente só esperam pela CEDEAO, quando há uma população revoltada por mobilizar para enfrentar o golpe sissoquista nas ruas da Guiné-Bissau.  Amanhã, 14 de Dezembro de 2025, realiz...
